Birkenstock women’s sandals and clogs are typically offered in two widths: Regular (sometimes labeled “Regular/Wide”) and Narrow. The difference isn’t the length of the shoe—it’s the volume and side-to-side space through the footbed, especially at the forefoot, midfoot, and heel. Choosing the right width helps your foot sit “inside” the footbed walls instead of riding on top of them.
Regular width is roomier across the ball of the foot and provides more overall space for higher-volume feet. It’s often the better pick if your feet are average-to-wide, if you like socks with clogs, or if your toes tend to feel crowded in many sandals. In Regular, your foot should still look centered on the footbed, with a little space around the edges and without your toes or the side of your foot spilling over the rim.
Narrow width is a slimmer footbed with less volume. It’s designed for narrower feet and for shoppers who feel like Regular Birkenstocks look or feel “too roomy.” Narrow can also help reduce side-to-side movement if you notice your foot sliding in the sandal. The goal is a secure, aligned fit where your heel sits in the heel cup and your arch feels supported without pinching.
Check where your foot lands on the footbed. If your foot touches or rides over the edges in Regular, you likely need Regular but in the correct length (or a strap adjustment). If you have extra space on both sides and your foot shifts, try Narrow. Straps matter too: even in the right width, you should be able to snug the straps so your foot stays stable while still allowing natural movement.

The cork-latex footbed molds to your foot shape with wear, which can make them feel more personalized, but the width doesn’t “stretch” dramatically like soft fabric shoes. Leather straps may relax slightly, so re-adjust buckles as needed.
